Black-Eyed Susans
Dot the earth
Stretching, reaching toward the sky
Gazing
With their one black eye
Nose cones pointed way up high
Petals burning sun-burst bright
Ready to rocket
Away
Good-bye
Back to the sun
In the far away sky

They are everywhere here, those ‘scattered sun drops’. Love the images you’ve written, Liz.
The balck-eyed Susan in your photograph certainly looks ready to “Ready to rocket
Away” – like Linda, I love the strong imagery in this poem.
Hi, Liz. I love how this is such an active flower poem. Great verbs here. As a Marylander, I’m partial to the Black Eyed Susan.
Thanks! I’m happy you like it.
Our house is surrounded by hundreds of scattered sun drops…thanks for sharing!
Liz,
I like the metaphor of a rocket for the black eyed susan. Great picture and well executed poem. Thanks for the post.
Congratulations on keeping your promise to yourself of writing a poem a day.
oooh, i like that “ready to rocket.”
I see rockets everywhere now!
Lovely!
One of my favorite flowers. I have black eyed susans next to my mailbox. Thanks for reminding me to enjoy the beauty around us.
Beautiful flower and beautiful poem.
scattered sun drops! Love so much, and the rocketing away. A friend of mine recently describe black-eyed susans as “workhorse of the garden with a little show pony inside.” Love that too. Thank you for sharing!
