Bad Homework

My homework was bad.
It was long and hard too,
but I’d heard people talk.
I knew what to do.
I found my dog Joe.
I showed him the stuff.
“Here, Joe!” I said.
All Joe said was “Ruff?”
I crumpled the pages.
“Fetch!” I told Joe,
but he sat by my feet
drooling, “Where did it go?”
I tore it to shreds.
I mixed it with stew.
I filled up his bowl.
I said, “Here, boy! For you!”
Joe took a good sniff.
He whined, then he beat it.
I had homework so bad,
my dog wouldn’t eat it.

Hi Liz, the last line made me smile. Thank you for sharing an original poem with us. And warm welcome to Poetry Friday! 🙂
Ha! Love that turn at the end. 🙂
Welcome to Poetry Friday and thanks for sharing!
Guess he can’t use that old excuse, right? But he tried! I like the way your poem told the whole story and imagine that students would love the concept, would want to add more ways.
Welcome to PF, Liz!
Enjoyed this poem — I imagine the homework might have been math word problems? Don’t like doing them, can’t get me to eat them. 😀
Thanks so much for the comments and for the warm welcome to Poetry Friday!
LOL very cute! That photo is adorable too.
Good dog!
I’m not sure Sophie hears those two words together very often! : )
Loved those last two line in particular. I must share this with my sixth graders, they would be able to relate! And…welcome to Poetry Friday!
I am thrilled that you want to share it with your students!
What a great twist on “the dog ate my homework!” I loved imagining the child trying to FEED the homework to the dog. Very clever and funny. My children will get a kick out of it too! a.
This poem is so much fun! Thanks for sharing it!
Hi Liz, I’m coming over from Poetry Friday. Fun concept — I love the twist on the old homework excuse (and the dog is cute, too)! Looking forward to seeing more of your work. 🙂
Thanks for coming over! I visited you too and enjoyed your melancholy swine.
