Paper Crane
I fold,
I flip,
I bend
my brain.
Slowly,
I hatch
a paper
crane.
I wrote this yesterday in response to Laura Salas’ 15-words-or-less poetry prompt. She posted a photo of a beautiful light in the shape of a star. There was no bird, paper, or folding, though the light looked a bit like it could have been folded. That’s what set my mind going where it found an origami crane. Thanks Laura for inspiring us each week.
I’m still working on a title. I don’t want to give anything away… Ideas?

I’m not very good at titles–and I kind of like the simplicity of calling it Paper Crane. It matches the elegance of the poem, IMHO.
Thanks, Buffy. I like the simplicity too.
I think this is all very profound, Liz. How the mind can see origami in a holiday tree-topper light. How something as simple as a square of paper has so much potential. Origami amazes and delights me. It is like snowflakes and their incredibly varied shapes. Patterns amid chaos and yet simplicity. I like the idea of seeing more, but not sure how you can work a title that does what Buffy talks about as well as Paper Crane. I was thinking of your poem without that title and wondering where my mind would wander. I like how it sets us up so we can imagine your hands doing the work and in the end, voila you have made one. Not much help, I know, other than to say I do like your poem. And btw did you see the Highlights Foundation adv? You and Rebecca look great!
I think you and Rebecca look great! I look like I’m just about to say something. Have you seen the documentary “Between the Folds?” It’s amazing.
I love the poem! I loved it yesterday! I can’t think of a clever title to suggest, though. I bet you’ll come up with the perfect title if you just let it set a while.
Thanks, Penny. It will probably come to me when I’m thinking about something completely different!
I saw your poem on Laura’s site yesterday too, It’s lovely!
I think paper cranes symbolize wishes. Could you do something with that? “Make a wish” or something even shorter.
Oh, this is mind-bendingly good, Liz! You capture the creative process in very few words!
I really like this!
Lovely!
Great poem, Liz! As you know I love poems of few words — you captured origami paper folding. Mind bending, indeed! =)
Beautiful Liz! The first title that popped into my head was, “Hatchling.” Hope you had a great Christmas. 🙂
