Officer Hydrant
Officer Hydrant
He stands at the corner
minding his post,
this stodgy old man
from the Cardigan coast.
He wears a stiff bowler
and a watch on a chain,
but he won’t take his eyes
off his fragile domain.
He watches and waits,
always ready to go.
If there’s ever a fire,
this codger will blow!

Love it!
Ha! Fabulous!
I can see Officer Hydrant there in his bowler hat. Now because I read your poem, I even know his personality. Great!
For a stodgy old man, he’s pretty dapper in his green and blue duds. Love the bowler hat. 🙂
I can imagine this poem in the March Madness Poetry Tournament for the word “codger” 🙂 Wonderfully imaginative, Liz!
This is adorable. Thanks for sharing it.
I’ll never look at a hydrant the same way again – the stodgy old fella! Another gem, Liz! = )
