Haiku for Late Winter or Early Spring
gray days—
who can remember
lemonade?
morning moon:
trying to show
the cat
closed buds—
in every mouth
a song
the skip
in her hello—
spring!

Why does there seem to be a world of difference between late winter and early spring?
Lovely! Especially the lemonade and “skip in her hello” – what a perfect image that creates. Sometimes in winter I make iced tea to counteract the gray. 🙂
Lovely, Liz! I’m especially drawn to the third one, with the image of a closed bud resembling a mouth, and the world about to burst forth in bloom as well as song for spring. Delightful! Thanks for sharing.
We picked up another 8 inches here – after they forecast only 1-3 – so it’s definitely feeling more like a late winter than an early spring! Nice poem, though…great imagery!
Wonderful haiku, Liz! You captured this time of year perfectly in only a few words. =)
I love these, Liz. My favorite is

With the snow this past week, and 30 degree temps tonight, I can hardly wait for blue skies and lemonade! : )
So glad I live in the tropics. 🙂 I’m glad there are signs of spring!
I agree with Robyn–the mouthfulls of bud waiting to sing out spring are just perfect.
