Flurries

Snow Cat
From the window she hunts
Snowflakes riding winter winds.
She leaps!
Pinning herself to the screen
Like a snow glob stuck to the glass
Before it seeps to the floor.
Snow Boy
From the window he hunts
Snowstorms riding distant winds.
He wishes!
Pressing himself to the cold
Like a breath that fogs the glass
Before it disappears.
Snow Girl
From the window she hunts
Snow angels riding glistening winds.
She peers.
Angling herself to the glass
Like a ray of sunlight that shines bright
Before breaking into color.
Snow Dog
From the window he hunts
Snow boots trudging through frigid winds.
He dreams!
Turning away from the cold
Like a door that shuts
Before the intruder arrives.

Brrrrr! These are wonderful, Liz. Each is so vivid and true to life.
I like your variations on the same theme… I can picture the whole family sitting and watching the snow falling, noses pressed against the window in anticipation.
I love the anticipation in these poems! I live in MD, and we haven’t gotten much snow this year. My students have been waiting for a snow day!
We certainly haven’t had any snow days this year in Georgia – what a warm winter it’s been! Thanks for sharing these delightful peeks into the varied expectations for snow magic.
What a fun idea! We have been hoping for snow all winter, to no avail. Thanks for sharing these!
Oh, I love these…all the perspectives ring so true. May I share your poem with my students to experiment with this exercise, too?
Absolutely fabulous! I just love this series and the idea behind it. So beautiful and silent as snow.
So fun. I loved the different takes. I just wish I had snow falling to enjoy it more.
And I loved the Valentine Day post. Fun to do.
Wonderful characterizations and by the second I was already wondering! I love that repetition & then the action.
I’m so happy you enjoyed them. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Liz
Beautiful poems! I live outside DC (in Maryland) and was thinking we were going to actually get some snow last night. But it just missed us again!
