Far Away Friends
Far Away Friends
When I see the stars,
you see the sun,
but we both remember
our long days of fun.
When I see the sun,
you see the stars,
but distance can’t end
a friendship like ours.
I may live here,
and you may live there,
but we will be friends
no matter the where.
I’m stepping away from my desk for a moment. A friend asked me for a poem for her son because his best friend is moving to Shanghai. I couldn’t easily find one (suggestions welcome!) so I wrote this for them.

I think this poem hits the mark for anyone who will be across the globe from their friend. Nice job, Liz! =)
Thanks, Bridget. I think it helped that we were once that friend.
“no matter the where” is lovely, Liz. And it’s also lovely that you wrote for your friend. I found a poem by Judith Viorst you might like. Unfortunately it’s about a girl. http://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/hannah-moved-away
Thanks, Linda. I’ll go look. It even sounds familiar. From If I Were in Charge of the World? I’m glad you like the last line. I wasn’t sure about the “the.”
It fits the rhythm beautifully, & I like the different way of saying.
Wonderful poem to comfort a child who is moving.
This is simply lovely. I think it’s perfect for your friend’s needs. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks, Rosi.
